Jewy News is saddened to report that Samuel Golubchuk has passed away, as reported by the Jerusalem Post.
Mr. Golubchuk’s story became newsworthy when doctors treating him at Grace Hospital in Winnipeg decided he wasn’t dying fast enough. They wanted to kill euthanize him, and sought permission from his family to disconnect his life support.
Superficially, this case resembles the Terri Schiavo case, but with one significant difference. Ms. Schiavo was in a persistent vegetative state. In contrast, Mr. Golubchuk was described as “awake, alert, sitting up in a chair at times, more interactive and shaking hands purposively.”
Apparently the cost of providing care was an issue; Canada has a publicly-funded health-care system, so Mr. Golubchuk’s care was costing the taxpayers money. If the US also adopts a similar system, Jewy News expects US doctors (or hospital administrators) might also want to kill euthanize inconvenient patients like the late Mr. Golubchuk.
